Snow Emergency

Winter has officially landed in Minneapolis as well as the first snow emergency! Although, the weather doesn't seem to be slowing down Twin Cities Green customers thank goodness... we Minnesotans are hearty! The Saturday before Christmas is always hoppin'. I love our customers. The green community is generally friendly and warm folk. It's very rewarding to watch people find that perfect gift and see the relief on their faces when their shopping is done! As soon as the Holiday season settles down, I want to get on finding a crew of people to contribute to this blog. I think it could be a great sounding board for local green individuals to share their opinions, thoughts, advice, and input.

EcoTuesday Holiday Party

Wow!  What a great turn out for EcoTuesday @ Twin Cities Green!  Despite the cold weather and snowy streets, the green community turned out in force for this special holiday version of EcoTuesday.  Great speakers, food, drinks, shopping, and plenty of power networking!  The green community is such a pleasant crowd to hang out with.  Everyone wants to know about what everyone else is up to and everyone is tied together by wanting to tread lighter on our little planet. The Twin Cities is definitely a vibrant shade of green tonight!  A big thank you to Ami, Erika, and Andy with Do It Green! MN and Nora and friends with EcoTuesday for making tonight's event a success. Also a shout out to Peace Coffee, The Red Stag Supper Club, Summit Beer, Two Smart Cookies, Kasia Organic Salon, and Neely Crane-Smith with her MN Energy Challenge!

Let the Blogging Begin...

I've always tried to keep a blog, but with not much success... I think perhaps one of the ways to improve its lasting power is to invite other folk to contribute, which I just did! What might one write or read about on this blog you may ask? I would love to see different individuals contribute a variety of content having anything to do with being and living green. Daily feelings, hopes, dreams, tribulations, aspirations on topics like: reducing waste, water and air quality, transportation, food, products, services, and places, likes and dislikes, best green practices, personal green tips, green businesses... that's just a start. Pictures and links are always encouraged and welcome!

It's Working!

It's taken a few hours, but I've got a decent start. I can believe how difficult it's been to integrate this blog into the associated website. I eventually created my own widget at widgetbox.com. I'm so disappointed that Google Blogger doesn't make this easier. Now I have to add and manage a calendar and figure out a menu. I also want to put in some blank sponsor place holders so potential businesses can see their opportunities on the site.

Twin Cities Green Map!

So I had this idea, laying in bed the other night... when most of my best ideas come to me... to create a website that would help folks who are green, concerned about environmental issues, or want to shop or eat in a way that is less impactful on the world. A map (courtesy of Google) would be the featured tool - implementing a system of icons to identify different green opportunities: shopping, dinging, home improvement, clothes, etc. Along with the map will be links, a blog, discounts and offers, and possibly a calendar. Different green related companies would be able to sponsor different size logo ads. We'll see how it develops and grows.
